Taking The Internet On The Go With You
No need to depend on a landline to take you into the online world. No more cables connected from the computer to the modem. No more wireless that only works inside the house. As technology advances forward so are new ways to connect to the net without all of these things. Not only that, but we can take the internet on the go — whenever, wherever.
One of these technologies is called Wi-Fi. It is wireless internet, and it will work in a certain area, but now businesses like the library and cafes are offering wireless internet for free. Research these Wi-Fi “hotspots,” go inside and connect.
3G broadband, or third generation broadband, is an alternative to Wi-Fi. They come in the form of a flash drive and can be plugged in through USB ports on the side of your computer. These devices offer a separate plan from your phone: therefore it costs money. If monthly payment isn’t your thing, there are prepaid 3G broadbands available.
A form that isn-t as well known as the previous two is called tethering. Connect your phone to the computer and use that to go online. By doing that, the phone will act like a modem. It can be done with a cable or wireless.
If you don’t want to lug the computer around, go online with your cell phone. Most phones plans come with internet access anyway, so take advantage of this. Some require Wi-Fi; some add bandwidth in the plan so know the details. You can do online payments, purchases, and basic necessities with your cell phone.
Finally, there’s WIMAX. Faster than Wi-Fi, this wireless technology is 4G, or fourth generation. Standing for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, it breaks the boundaries of Wi-Fi and 3G, but not as convenient and accessible.
